Kajal lives in a community where it is often difficult for girls to feel safe. Many people in her neighborhood drink alcohol, and some of them would say bad and hurtful things to Kajal. It was common for groups of boys, especially after drinking, to stand on the streets and stare at women and girls who passed by. Because of all this, Kajal felt scared and stopped going to school.
One day, a center called EPF’s Prerna Kendra opened near her home. This center is a place where girls can come to learn and grow as leaders. Kajal’s parents felt relieved because the center was close by. They did not have to worry about her traveling far or facing dangers on the way to school. At first, Kajal thought the center might close soon because not many people want to work in their unsafe area. To reach the center, one has to cross four railway tracks, walk past a drain, and then walk about 500 meters. This made it hard for any organization to keep running there.
But EPF stayed. They worked hard to keep the center open and safe for girls like Kajal. This gave her hope that she could continue her studies and have a better future. Now, Kajal is very happy and feels safe when she goes to the center. She believes she will finally complete her education and stand strong.
Kajal often reminds herself every day: “I will become something one day. I want to stand strong, study hard, and make my parents proud. I believe education is the key to reaching my dreams. I am determined not to give up. One day, I will surely make something of my life.”
EPF’s Prerna Kendra is helping many girls like Kajal. It is creating a safe space where girls can learn without fear. Your support can help more girls have the chance to go to school, follow their dreams, and build a better life.
Chanda attends the education program under EPF’s Prerna Kendra (Inspirational Center). Before coming to this center, Chanda never thought she would continue her education. Her parents wanted her to stay at home and help with housework. She felt like school and studies were not meant for her.
Everything began to change after Chanda joined the classes at Prerna Kendra. She met teachers who encouraged her to learn and believe in herself. The education is free, giving her many chances to discover new things and grow. Now, Chanda enjoys studying, especially English, and she feels much more confident about who she is.
The biggest change, Chanda says, has been in her parents. They did not want her to continue school before, but now they support her dreams and want her to study even more. Through leadership sessions at the center, Chanda is also learning how to speak up—not just for herself but for other girls in her community. She now helps organize group activities and even leads discussions with younger students. These experiences have taught her that her voice matters and she can make a difference.
Chanda is sure she will complete her education. She dreams of becoming a nurse one day so she can help people. Along with studying, she has started learning karate classes at the center. This makes her feel strong, active, and fearless.
Chanda feels hopeful about her future. “I believe I can reach my dreams,” she says. “More importantly, I want to inspire other girls like me to never give up on their education.”
Sapna attends the EPF program under Prerna Kendra (Inspirational Center). Before joining, Sapna was not very interested in studying and didn’t think much about her future. Most of her time went into doing household chores because her parents went out to work. She felt satisfied helping her family at home and did not see education as important for her.
One day, the EPF team visited Sapna’s home and talked to her parents about her education. At first, her parents were unwilling to send her to study because they felt the area was not safe for girls. The team convinced them to let Sapna try the classes for a few days and promised that if her parents were not happy, she could stop anytime.
After joining the classes, Sapna’s learning improved a lot, especially in English. Her father, who earlier thought education was not necessary for her, has started supporting her studies after seeing how much she has changed.
Today, Sapna really enjoys studying and has started dreaming big. She wants to become a doctor one day. This new support makes her happy and confident. Sapna strongly believes that if she continues like this, she will complete her education and fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor.
